Ice Wonderland on 1,900 square meters
Ice Wonderland opened at Kapucinski Square in Varaždin. The rink covers 1,900 square meters. It will remain open almost two months. Visitors can skate until 12 January.
Largest rink in Croatia and the region
Organisers report that this is the largest ice rink in Croatia and this part of Europe. For comparison, the Zagreb Tomislavac rink covers 1,750 square meters. The Varaždin rink is larger this season.
Growing interest
Mayor Neven Bosilj said Varaždin has had the best Advent in Croatia for two years. He added that a baroque city deserves the largest rink. Interest from visitors is high. Almost 30 buses are expected for the first Advent weekend. Visitors are coming from Austria, Italy, Hungary, Slovenia and Serbia.
Attractive opening programme
The opening event included a synchronised ice show, circus acrobatics and a fire performance. Professional skaters from Dubai performed stilt skating. Project manager Natko Bošnjak said such a performance has not been seen in the region before.
Capacity and working hours
The rink holds up to 500 people at once. It is open daily from 10 to 22. On weekends it stays open until 23.
Visitor growth
Last year, when the rink was the second largest in Croatia, it attracted around 30 thousand skaters. Organisers expect even more this year.
