The second edition of the Vrboska Boutique Film Festival (VFF) will take place from August 1 to 4 in a pop-up cinema in front of the Fortress in Hvar. Visitors can look forward to screenings of short live-action and animated films, workshops for children and adults, and an acoustic concert by Baby Lasagna.
Festival Opening and Film Program The festival kicks off on Friday, August 1, at the open-air cinema in front of St. Mary’s Church, popularly known as the Fortress. The opening will feature 16 Croatian and international short films in the competition category, judged by last year’s winners: Martina Meštrović, Milena Grujić, and Ante Marin.
The first two days will showcase short films by director Silva Ćapin: “Horticulture” and “German Stubbornness”, whose stories perfectly complement the summer festival vibe.
Awards Ceremony and Baby Lasagna Concert The closing ceremony will include the presentation of the Blue Palm Awards for the best films, followed by the screening of Ante Marin’s debut film, the dark comedy “Južina”. The evening will end with an intimate acoustic concert by Baby Lasagna.
Workshops for Children and Adults On the second day, the children’s program begins with a stop-motion animation workshop. Adults can join the StoryBuilding workshop led by local creative Stjepan Mijat Zaninović.
Special Events and Festival Goals The program also includes “Dance of the Sails”, a spectacle where traditional wooden boats with lateen sails “dance” in the harbor to music and lights, in collaboration with the Lantina Association. The festival aims to promote young filmmakers, present curated recent film works to local audiences, and enrich Hvar’s summer cultural scene.
The event is organized with the support of the Vrboska Tourist Board, Jelsa Municipality, Croatian Audiovisual Centre, Split-Dalmatia County Tourist Board, and several other partners.
